Kumu Renee Ka’awai has been dancing since the age of 4 years old. She opened her Halau with the permission and blessing of her Kumu, Leina’ala Pa’I Alesna, and was given the name of Na Hawaii ‘O Kaleponi. After her passing, Kumu Ka’awai felt it only right to give back the name to the Alesna Ohana and became Hula Ikaika Ohana ‘O Ka’awai ~ E Honu Iti E which has been in existence since 1996.
